Rachel Reeves, born in 1979, grew up in Lewisham, southeast London. Her parents, Graham and Sally Reeves, were both teachers who separated during her childhood. Rachel attended New College Oxford and the London School of Economics, where she studied politics and economics respectively.

Political Career

Rachel Reeves began her political career in the civil service before being elected Labour MP for Lewisham West and Penge in 2010. She held the seat until the 2024 general election, when she was elected in the new seat of Lewisham.

Historic Appointment as Chancellor of the Exchequer

On July 5, 2024, Rachel Reeves made history by becoming the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer in British history. This momentous appointment placed her in charge of the country's public finances and economic policy.

Personal Life

Rachel Reeves is married to Nicholas Joicey, a civil servant. They have two children together. Her younger sister, Ellie Reeves, is also a Labour MP.
